Kate
Kate is a researcher with a MSc degree in Animal Welfare, Behaviour, Ethics & Law (distinction).
Her academic interests include animal rights law including legal personhood and habeas corpus, animal science including behaviour science and sentience, human psychology research of awareness, beliefs and the effect of information, behaviours of animal agriculture and food industries, marketing and misinformation and food ethics.
Kate has particular interest in farmed animals, specifically cattle kept for dairy farming. Her work and interests include research into the maternal-related elements of dairy farming. She has conducted research into the UK public’s awareness of, reactions to and acceptance of cow’s milk as a maternal lactation, the practice of cow-calf separation and use of higher yield breeds. Kate also has a particular interest in farmed animal slaughter and aquatic life.
Kate has worked, within research, investigation and project-based capacities, on numerous areas including animal agriculture, animal experimentation, companion animals including the puppy trade, the fur trade, hunting including canned hunting, and entertainment, including zoos, aquariums and circuses. She has also worked in human rights, investigating the harms of online misinformation.
Her work has contributed to legal developments, media coverage and increased awareness of practices and related animal welfare concerns.
Kate also has interest in investigative journalism, data visualization, photojournalism and documentary film.

On Animals is a space for research, writing and photography relating to animal related research and animal rights law, focusing on farmed animals.
